From what age can you start with Hobby Horsing?

From when is it good to begin with Hobby Horsing?
Hobby Horsing is both fun and sport, and it’s gaining popularity among children and adults all around the world. Whether you’re looking for a playful activity or a sporting challenge, many parents ask themselves: “At what age is it suitable to start?”
In this blog, we’d like to share our experiences from more than five years of developing our Hobby Horses.
With a Hobby Horse from 3 years old
In the past, getting started was a bit limiting – the horses were larger and heavier, with a big stick. For small children, long play or sporting use wasn’t really possible, and they were often left disappointed. That’s why at LarDen we decided to change this. We developed not only large horses but also the smallest version – the Hobby Horse XS. It’s extra lightweight and ideal for the youngest riders. Thanks to this, there are now no age limits – Hobby Horsing can truly be enjoyed by everyone!
Still, we recommend starting from around the age of three. The reason is simple: our horses are handmade, and very curious little children could possibly pull parts off. So, this recommendation is mainly for safety.
But more important than age is the child’s physical readiness and – when it comes to sports – choosing the right variation. With the right Hobby Horse, everything becomes easier, and the joy of movement is much greater.

Age and Sport
You can step into the sporting world of Hobby Horsing practically anytime. For the youngest children, the sporting side is more about gaining experience than breaking records. Just like in any other sport, higher-level disciplines in Hobby Horsing are physically demanding, so it makes sense to aim for bigger achievements only once a child is physically ready.
First comes familiarisation, then focused training, and only gradually does the difficulty and performance requirement increase. For beginners – regardless of age – the most important thing is gaining experience and learning habits such as discipline and coordination.

Benefits for Children
Hobby Horsing develops coordination, balance, concentration, and social skills. Children learn to work together, follow rules, and celebrate their own successes.
But Hobby Horsing is not only about jumping over obstacles. Kids move in groups, play games, and discover what excites them most about the sport. Each child can find their favorite activity. Another big benefit is creativity: children design accessories, customize their horses, and try new techniques. This way they strengthen dexterity, learn to work with different materials, and develop creative thinking.
The main motivation should always be fun. Even when training for sport, the purpose is to develop motor skills and enjoy every bit of progress.
In the sporting part of Hobby Horsing, the benefits are clear. Kids build fitness, technique, and muscle strength. They gain valuable training skills, from warm-ups to specific exercises. Sports also give them real-world experience – for example at competitions or when traveling abroad. And equally important is developing team spirit, since Hobby Horsing often takes place in groups and fosters cooperation and mutual support.

Recommendations
You can start Hobby Horsing at any age – all you need is excitement and enthusiasm. The key is choosing the right Hobby Horse, because with the right one, everything feels easier. Instead of focusing strictly on age, we recommend looking at the child’s physical abilities and – if it’s about sports – the right discipline.
Hobby Horsing is a wonderful activity that promotes coordination, balance, fitness, and above all, fun. Whether your child starts early or later, one thing is certain: with a Hobby Horse there’s always room for play and sport that inspires.
